The Cat's Pajamas ~ Hillbilly Hoedown
The Cat’s Pajamas Cabaret - Monday, May 24th, 2010.
8:00pm $5 Cover
The Make Out Room 3225 22nd. st.
Join us for "Hillbilly Hoedown" A celebration of pitchforks, swamps, blue misty mountain, corn liquor, hayseeds and all that hard foot stompin' on an old barn floor to the sounds of bad ass banjos and vicious violins!
"a Hill-Billie is a free and untrammeled white citizen of Alabama, who lives in the hills, has no means to speak of, dresses as he can, talks as he pleases, drinks whiskey when he gets it, and fires off his revolver as the fancy takes him." Goes one definition but "Hillbilly Boogie" was the term given to music that blended Scotch Irish melody with African American music. I like the sound of that! And you will too. It will be a hoedown Boogie to remember!
PERFORMERS:
Oboe Martin:
Part feather capped-farmer, part homeless Irish tall-tale, part Peter Pan turned genius and all legend, Obo is profoundly unique performer that will have you smellin' wood smoke and peat moss in no time.
"Imagine Huckleberry Finn sliding down a fire escape being chased by the ghost of William Blake"

Quinn DeVaeux:
Quinn DeVeaux has packed houses and astounded audiences in the bay area for years with his smooth and dirty spank you voice and cool melodic songwriting. First he started an early Chicago Blues band and then a New Orleans soul and gospel band. Both groups had audiences clamoring for more. Quinn harnesses the likes of Ray Charles, John Hurt, Fats Domino and Bo Diddley. His songwriting is the classic influence made fresh. With all the style and subtlety of the great soul/blues singers of the earth bound golden days, his band keeps audiences in a state of joy. And he has a rare and delightful country twang that is not to be missed!

Nic Alea:
Like a strong wind bearing on it the smell of hot grass and ripe berries, and the kind of hope that is not afraid of death, Nic is a rising, vibrant voice that will be sure to shake the rafters with her words of beauty.
Noe Za:
Last featured in the Hello, Folly Review, Noe Za is a mime from the old school with a wholly new twist. Blending Italian clowning, Hobo charm and the pathos of rain soaked fiddle, he will bring a few happy tears to your eyes.
Pot Holder and The Lid:
The Potholder has been performing in San Francisco for the past 5 years, steadily building a loyal following with his fiery brand of Folk and Country. His band includes an upright bassist, drummer, rockabilly lead guitar and backup vocalists. In addition to his musical accomplishments, The Potholder is also a co-founder of the Collaborative Arts Insurgency (C.A.I) and its Thursday night residency at the 16th and Mission BART station, a wildly popular gathering of poets, musicians, onlookers and other crazies.

The Cat's Pajamas ~ Mod Mambo
The Cat’s Pajamas Cabaret - Monday, April 26th, 2010. Join us for "ModMambo" A celebration of all that is modern, mambo and stylish just for the fuck of it. It will be a night in ode to those skinny suited, scooter scootin', amphetamine fueled dancing all night cafe kids from the wrong side of town. Mick Jagger will be making an appearance as a performer in a tribute to madness in all it's hip, side belted, high heel kicking, beat poet charm. And as an added bonus that famous Empresario Olive Mitra will be co-hosting the event. Mambo!!!!!
PERFORMERS:
OLIVE MITRA: Long time host of the house of love cabaret that spawned such brilliance as Sean Hayes, Oboe and the Fantastic Eggplant Casino an 8-piece extravaganza of sexy sounds and hot brass. He has also appeared in Killing My Lobster and teaches the children of San Francisco literature(the good kind). In certain circles he is known as "The Big Chief" and we are very honored to have him strut his stuff on the Cat's Pajamas stage.

ANDREW PAUL NELSON: Skinny as, knows how to sport a hat, been known to see the dawn from the open doorway of Specs and has the ability to see this city from great and rainy heights. He is proof that poetry has not died and is indeed not for the faint of heart. His words are a salsa, staccato rhythm of profundity and wouldn't be out of place if spoken from the edge of a bright red Lambretta. Vroom! He is and more.

DIANA GAMEROS: is a an Indi, World, Latin, Folk performer singer/songwriter. Diana’s music ranges from traditional mexican styles of playing to latin pop/bossa nova rhythms. She is also stunning with the kind of musical grace that brings us back to a time when a fire, the night sky, a guitar and a voice was our reason for living. We are honored to have her back.

EL RADIO FANTASTIQUE: As a living music-breathing entity, El Radio Fantastique's 7-piece band is a stitched together b-movie creature - part rumba band in purgatory, part cinematic chamber group, part shipwrecked serenade. Feeding on invisible mysterious musical currents, it's alive, waiting in the shadows to posses you. It is El Radio Fantastique! Like an Edward Gorey story come to life, an old radio show with apocalyptic tones, a tribal dance fire get down, this band is explosion of delight and not to be missed. You too will become a cult follower after one listen.

BEN FLAX: Once the soulful, sexy front man of Lord Loves a Working Man, ben traveled far away from us to the magical land of Hong Kong where he fished from his front balcony, produced a beautiful baby boy and discovered the joys of squid. He is now back in triumphant return and ready to blaze again upon the stage with his unique hot, helluva voice, hittin'' it down style.

THE BUSINESS CATS: Adam Cole in collaboration with a mysterious cat makes techno pop, R&B, Passover ready, snarky love grooves that will make you laugh if you are not too busy weeping. It will be their debut performance and you don't want to have to tell people that you missed that moment in history!

Ms. Castillo has worked with local choreographers and has danced with a number of companies including Peninsula Ballet Theater, Santa Clara Ballet and Columbia City Ballet. She is also an expert on fitting pointe shoes and is available for consultation. She also seconds as a sly mambo assassin, doing the almost deadly deed delicately to all those who would dare not dance.
Ms. Markstrom is a fashion designer, dancer and the granddaughter of a cab driver who was most recently seen in Tranny Shack Bowie Tribute night to the delight of all concerned. She once lived in Paris, knows how to rock a pair of ecstatic heels and has a wit so fierce it has been known to freeze gin without the help of ice.
